Tips for Writing Your Application
This is a simple application so providing some detail regarding your goals and how the grant will make a difference for you and your students will strengthen your application and may give you an edge over others. Following some of the tips below may help you accomplish this goal.
For the “Explain why you are applying for this grant” question, identify the educational need or issue you hope to address. For example, with the lesson/project you are submitting for this grant award:
Would learning be improved in your classroom (be specific)?
Would you be able to reach a new group of students?
Would students gain an additional skill(s)?
Would you be able to address a specific instructional need?
Will students experience a different way of learning?
For the lesson plan summary, you only need a short paragraph or a few sentences with some bullet points) but consider including :
A brief statement of how the use of technology in this lesson/project supports your lesson goals/targets.
Intended outcomes that help the grant committee better understand what will happen in your classroom if you receive the grant.
How will you measure success? This may be answered in your lesson plan but if not, include a sentence in the summary about how you will evaluate whether or not the lesson achieved your intended outcomes.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Do grant funds have to pay for technology?
No. Grant funds may be used to purchase any educational resources or professional development you feel necessary to support the submitted lesson/project. However, the lesson/project must include the use of technology with students.
What questions are asked in the application?
Aside from general contact information, the following questions are asked in the application, which is a Google Form.
Explain why you are applying for this grant. What needs or issues will a grant award address?
How are you going to spend the money? A detailed budget is not necessary, simply provide estimated cost(s).
Title and brief summary of the proposed lesson/project.
Briefly explain how and/or why the resources or products you have chosen to purchase with the grant will make a difference for the lesson and/or your students.
Do I need to include a lesson plan with the application?
Yes. You will upload your lesson plan to the application. Use the lesson plan format of your choice, just be sure it includes details that will provide the grant reviewers with a clear understanding of the lesson and technology being used.
Do I need a detailed budget for this application?
No. The application asks for estimated costs.
Is the submission of a final report required for grant awardees?
There are just two final report requirements that awardees must agree to do:
Complete a brief online survey.
Participate in a brief interview (virtual) with an ITIP grant committee member so that ITIP Ohio may gather your feedback regarding the grant process and facilitation of your grant-supported lesson.
Is this grant available to private schools?
Yes, all teachers from any Ohio K-12 school can apply!
