Review: This is an excellent app for ASL! There are thousands of words that you can look up to learn the sign. When you click on the word it will show you a video of someone doing the sign which is very helpful! I highly recommend this app if you would like to learn ASL.

Review: QR codes are interesting for many reasons. This app was designed to scan QR codes and bar codes on products in stores. The scanner allows you to look up information about the product such as reviews and prices. This app, however, can also be used to scan teacher created QR codes. I have used QR codes as worksheets. Kids scan the codes, go to the website and learn the information I want them to learn. Kids will never look at worksheets the same again.

Its main intended use is for teachers to keep track of records for their classes, but it can also be used for meetings and group gatherings. This app makes taking student attendance an easy part of any classroom routine.

Review: A great & easy way to take attendance. Put your student list in a Google Spreadsheet, and this app takes care of the rest. There is no need to enter total absences into a spreadsheet at the end of the semester because all absences/tardies are calculated in your Google spreadsheet each day you take attendance.

Review: While a little pricey for an app, this gem can be used for a variety of purposes in any curriculum area which makes it worth the money. It's so easy to use that your students will be creating books right away! Stand back and watch the creativity flow!

Review: Cloud on is a free app that allows you to create, view, and modify Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files directly on your iPad. There are many other apps out there that allow you to do this but I have not seen one that is free. The documents you create are easily shared to a Dropbox account (which you will need to set up). This is also free. This app could be used in any class that creates documents. Awesome app for creating those digital portfolios.

Review: Comic Touch is another comic creation app for the iDevices. If you are familiar with Comic LIfe, Comic Touch is it's little brother. Comic Touch is still my go to app when it comes to creating comics to explain content area materials. It is simple and fun to use. Kids love it. There are other comic apps on the app store that have more features, but this one is fun and easy to use.

Not only can you take your files with you, but you can also share files with others. It's easy to save photos and videos from your mobile device to your Dropbox as well. Email attachments can be saved straight to your Dropbox. Download this app and create your account to find out how easy it is to have the files you need on your mobile device.

This is a wonderful app and one of my most used and highly recommended apps. I love it. Kids love it. You will love it!

Teachers can post last-minute alerts to their students and keep tabs on recent assignment submissions. Students can check their latest grades and what assignments they still need to turn in." Many teachers who use iPads in the classroom have made Edmodo a key tool for communication with students and their families. This program allows teachers to announce projects, assignments, and interact with students using iPad technology on a regular basis. A great tool for any educator in the 21st century!

Review: Evernote is a great app for storing information in the "cloud". My class uses Evernote to store our digital portfolios of student work. Students create screencasts and pencasts using the iPad or a Livescribe smartpen. These "casts" are then uploaded to the Evernote app. Students then have access to their digital portfolios whenever and wherever they are. Evernote is also available online. This app works great on iPods, iPhones and iPads. I highly recommend this app as a way to store information for easy sharing.

Review: Have you or your students ever wished you could share something interesting with parents immediately? Well, look no further. Eyejot is an app that allows you to record short videos (5 minutes or less) and send them to anyone. Parents get a kick out of videos of their children explaining that they got an A on a test. This app can be used to email parents a video of their child reading, the school play, etc. The possibilities are endless and can be done in any type of classroom. Administrators can use the app to send quick video memos to the staff. Eyejot also has the opportunity to create video business cards. I highly recommend the Eyejot app. Simply amazing. Unlike other video apps, Eyejot sends all videos to their servers. Nothing is stored on your iDevice.

Review: iBooks Author is not an iPad app but an app for your Mac computer. This app allows you to create your own digital books to be sold in the iBooks store. It is easy to use and amazing. If you can make a PowerPoint, you can use this app. Books can become interactive with the addition of video, music, and photos. You can even insert quizzes into the books. My 5th grade special education students loved making their first book: THE TWO KIDS AND DESERT TOWN. Want to make money? Sell your book. Want to give it away...then give it away. My students are begging to make the sequel to our class book. This Mac app has millions of possibilities. Make your own books. Make your own textbooks.

Review: iMovie is an amazing app from Apple that allows users to create movies on their iPods and iPads. This app makes it easy to import photos and movies to create your very own. It's like having a movie editing studio in your pocket. I have used iMovie in class to have students create vodcasts of concepts they have learned in class. Students can take pictures of things around the school and then make movies. Students can also take video clips and edit them on the iPods. Wow. Kids will be so engaged in the learning process that they won't want to leave.

Review: iResponse is another classroom responder system. Unlike other classroom responder systems, iResponse works in conjunction with your own laptop. Using the wireless network in your school, iResponse allows teachers to create quizzes on the computer and "push" questions to their students immediately. I also like the fact that teachers can create questions on the fly and push them to their students. iResponse works seamlessly and the students love taking quizzes. I have used this app many times to do quick comprehension checks during the teaching of the lesson. This is wonderful for students who are afraid of answering out loud for fear of being wrong. No one knows if a student got the answer correct except the teacher and the individual student. NOTE: the teacher laptop also needs to download the free iResponse software from their website.

Review: Mover+ is similar to the Bump app but is more customizable for the user. You can transfer documents from iPhone/iPad A to iPhone/iPod B with the flick of your finger. The Mover+ app has a transfer table that you can load and then connect via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth to easily move photos, contacts, and documents. The unique feature that Mover+ has is the ability to share multiple file types, other similar apps only allow contact information to be shared. If your classroom has iPads this app makes sharing information seamless.

Review: This tool is great for reviewing and grading documents. You can easily read and annotate PDF documents. Add drawings, text, stamps, and photos. What a great way for teachers to grade papers on their iPads! You can also use neu.Annotate to fill out forms and sign documents. Open files directly from your DropBox. Once finished, you can email the document, save it to your photos, open it in another app, or send it to iTunes. There is also a paid version, $4.99, that will allow you to import/export from/to DropBox among other things.

Review: The Nike+ GPS app is a great app that tracks running and walking miles. The Nike+ GPS app is designed for iPhones. The Nike+ app comes with all iPods standard and costs nothing. If you use the Nike+ app that is free, you will need a receiver to get the app to work ($20). I have used the app in school as a reward for good behavior. Students who were well behaved were allowed to take the receiver and iPod outside at recess to see how far they could run. Before I knew it, there was a class competition for running miles. When runs/walks are uploaded to the NIke+ website, data of all runs and calories burned is shown. This is a great data analysis activity. Students will never look at data analysis the same way again. I highly recommend getting this app. This is truly an engaging way to put a real-life spin on math.

Review: Pages is a word processing app from Apple. Pages is a great word processor with one major issue. Typing this much information on the iPad becomes difficult and time consuming. If you add a wireless keyboard to the iPad, then pages is awesome. I love the way that text automatically wraps itself around images inserted into the documents. Students will love to write on the iPad with this app.

Nothing fancy here...just a player app. I have used the smart pen in conjunction with this app in my classroom to allow students to show and speak what they know and then to play it back for reference later. Review: The iPad has always been criticized for its inability to play Flash materials. Teachers, especially those in the younger grades, use game sites with their students that require Flash (i.e. funbrain). Now, Rover offers teachers the ability to use Flash based content on the iPad. Rover’s main page opens up and displays over 40 other Flash-based sites that have teamed up to offer teachers the ability to use Flash based materials with their students. Discovery Education is a partner of Rover; they are offering Flash-based learning apps and lesson plans to teachers that can be used in coordination with Rover.

ScreenChomp is very easy to use and offers features to share your material on Facebook and Twitter. If you are using an iPad in the classroom this is a must have app.

Review: ShowMe is basically a recordable whiteboard. I use it in class as a basic whiteboard to show examples of problems students have questions on. It can also be used to record your voice as you draw, which can be uploaded to the Internet. This could be useful for absent students who want to catch up, or students who need extra help on homework. Also students could create their own lessons to share in class.

Review: If you have an iPad and don't have this app YOU ARE MISSING OUT! This application was shown to me by another colleague and I had to get it. The app lets you screencast by recording your voice and the activity on your screen. It is an awesome tool in my math class and this is an app that would be awesome for any instructor that wants to implement technology in the classroom. Download this app!

Review: This is a great way to get the whole class engaged with the material. Teachers can create their own "quick quizzes" with a built-in feature or import them using an Excel template. As students answer the questions, the results can be displayed on the projector and then results can be exported as a report for the teacher. Teachers can use these quizzes in order to assess student's comprehension of the material. This would be a good idea to do at the end of the class in order to get a pulse for student's understanding of the material.

Review: As a school administrator, I have used this app to help record and document teacher observations in the classroom. Using SoundNote, you are able to type notes, draw diagrams, and record audio all at the same time. This app is wonderful for data collection and documentation, allowing my observations to be detailed and specific. Review: Splashtop app is a great way to gain remote access to your computer from your iPhone or iPad. You can stream video and audio from your PC or Mac and it allows you to interact with PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, etc. Uses Wi-Fi or 3G/4G networks to connect. This app makes computer access so much easier for teachers who are constantly on the go.

Review: Have you ever wanted your students to create a storyboard or comic strip as an assignment but not had the materials? Review: Strip Designer is an easy to use app that allows users to import their own pictures and create comic strips. I use this app to do digital scavenger hunts of math concepts, social studies terms and many more. Kids take pictures of the terms and then describe them in the comics. I have also taken pictures and had kids create the comic as an inference activity. This is a great app. Comics can be exported in PDF format for easy sharing.

Review: TeacherTool saves grades and makes suggestions for grades. TeacherTool saves your remarks about students and presents them to you in the upcoming lesson. It remembers the date of any grade and lets you store comments along with it. TeacherTool also keeps track of your students‘ absences. It is much safer than your traditional mark-book, as with every synchronization on your Mac, you save an up-to-date backup copy of all your data. While costly, it is a nice app for keeping all administrative record keeping at your fingertips in the classroom.

Review: The World HD Atlas and Factbook has the best of both worlds: access to lots of maps and the largest world fact book. So while you are looking at any map you want to access, questions that come up can be answered with the fact book. The interface is animated and interactive so navigation isn't a problem and student's can use this app for geography lessons. All maps are high resolution, so the detail on each map is amazing and easily readable.
